Is WoodmanLife a good insurance company for Medicare Supplements?

WoodmanLife is A+ rated by A.M. Best and is an excellent company for Medicare Supplement. WoodmanLife, a fraternal benefit society that provides insurance for over 130 years, was founded in 1890 by Joseph Cullen Root in Omaha, Nebraska. By 1898, its membership had grown to nearly 90,000; in 1966, it had over $1 billion of life insurance in force.  They just recently opened the books for new Medicare Supplement policies, so it’s difficult to predict how their premiums will hold up compared to their competiors.  Time will tell.

How much does the average WoodmanLife  Medicare Supplement cost per month?

WoodmanLife rates are based on a lot of factors, including your state of residence, zip code, gender, and age.  Other things determine the rate, including if you live with another adult, your height/weight, and tobacco use.

The examples below are accurate rates provided by CGS Actuarial Systems and were calculated on September 17, 2024, for coverage that begins  1, 2024.  They are non-tobacco Rates for Medigap Plan G with all available discounts.  Since most seniors pay Medicare Supplement premiums monthly,  the rates below were calculated on a monthly basis.

If you prefer to pay your premiums quarterly, semi-annual or annually simply mutiply by 4,6 or 12.  The only way you can pay montly is by automatic bank draft, but Woodman will accept a paper check if you pay quarterly, semi-annual or annually.

Woodman Medicare Supplement Discounts

You may qualify for a household discount or multi insured discount.  Most states allow a 10% discount for just living with another adult of a certain age.  Florida only allows a 3% discount. Rates are zip code specific, so we can’t list every zip, age, gender, tobacco status, or qualifying discount. You see where I’m going with this.  You can see in the chart below some sample rates based on age in a few different cities in the US.

There’s no discount for paying annual.  The annual rate is the monthly rate multiplied by 12 months.

Rates for new buyers can change at any time and not just at the beginning of a calendar year.  They can go up in specific zip codes, down in some, and not in others.  WoodmanLife allows you to lock in your rate six months in advance.  So, even if they change the rates before your policy starts, you’ll get the lower rate.

If you pay your premiums annually instead of monthly or live with another adult at least 50, there’s a good chance they’ll have the lowest premiums.  If the rates spark your interest, provide your name, phone number, and email address, and we’ll email you the company associated with the rate.
