2025 Medicare Part D Changes

What’s New For 2025 Part D?

The Medicare AEP (annual enrollment period) is just around the corner, and there were significant changes to the 2025 drug plans due to the Inflation Reduction Act, which were mostly in your favorHowever, we do expect premiums to increase across the board.  You need to re-evaluate your current drug coverage to ensure it’s the best plan for next year. Below are some changes that could have an impact on you.

  • The doughnut hole was eliminated
  • Your total out-of-pocket costs for copays and deductible is limited to $2,000
  • You can pay the cost of expensive medications in monthly installments

A few PDP (Prescription Drug Plan) companies have decided not to pay commissions to agents in 2025, which, in our opinion, is not in the consumer’s best interest.  This means an agent could steer you to a plan that pays the agent a commission instead of recommending the plan that would benefit you the most.  We have always helped our Medicare Supplement clients choose their initial RX plan using Medicare’s drug plan finder tool, not a company-specific tool.   We continue using the same method and recommend the plan with the lowest total cost for the year.

Due to these changes, we have decided to be more active in helping you change PDP plans and want to ensure you have the right drug coverage.  Choosing the right plan is more complex than it has been in the past, especially if you take an expensive medication and need to spread the cost over the year.

Please call us if you want us to help you compare the new Part D plans based on your current medications. There is, of course, no charge for this service.  We’re happy to help!  Call (614) 402-5160 or click here to enter a list of your medications and preferred pharmacies or to compare current Medicare Supplement rates. We’ll be able to give you specific prescription costs and plan details when the plans are released.
